September 2005 we travelled to Beijing, China to assist
as tutors in co-ordinating this special interdisciplinary
intensive course offered jointly by COFA and the Central
Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing (CAFA), with additional
involvement by the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam.
Led by Professor Richard Goodwin, the two-week studio
centred on a critical investigation of contemporary urban
space, in particular addressing the problem of rapidly
increasing car use in Beijing.
Students developed collaborative art and design interventions
rethinking the role of the car in public space, with proposals
intersecting between the fields of sculpture, installation.
performance, architecture, urban planning and industrial
design.
We also designed promotional print material for the studio
and culminating exhibition. |
